Until recently, piercing had a rebellious reputation; veering away from more than a simple stud in each ear lobe was
considered ‘edgy’. Now, thanks to a recent influx of red-carpet sightings on Diane Kruger, Cara Delevingne and Nicole
Richie, as well as fashion-insider devotees, punk piercings have become positively chic. In-the-know accessories
editors are decorating their ears with tiny, gold hoops and specks of diamonds in multiples of three or four. Meanwhile,
needle-phobics are getting their fix with a diamond-embellished multi-cuff or serpent-like ear brooch worn in one ear
only – the accessory of choice at this year’s punk-themed Met Ball in New York.
