JANUARY JONES

January Jones wears Zac Posen at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards

I normally think that black dresses for the red carpet are too safe and boring, but Ms Jones pulls of this Zac Posen number with suitable aplomb. Elegant and stunning compliments to the designer.

SCARVES & SNOODS

As the days grow shorter and the temperature starts to drop, we accelerate towards winter through the
transitional season we call Autumn.  Its chilly in the morning but warm by the afternoon.

When the weather is unpredictable layering is the key.

One of the best ways to layer is to add snoods and scarves to your Autumn/Winter wardrobe.  Match and contrast to your outfit.  Look for colours and prints that suit your personality.

Urban Outfitters is a go to store for some of the most stylish neck wraps in town.

HOPE SPRINGS

Kay (Meryl Streep) and Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones) are a devoted couple, but decades of marriage have left Kay wanting to spice things up.
When she hears of a renowned couple’s specialist (Steve Carell) in the small town of Great Hope Springs, she attempts to persuade her skeptical husband, a steadfast man of routine, to get on a plane for a week of marriage therapy. Just convincing the stubborn Arnold to go on the retreat is hard enough – the real challenge for both of them comes as they shed their bedroom hang-ups and try to re-ignite the spark that caused them to fall for each other in the first place.

Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, and Steve Carell

Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones  A poignant tale well told and beautifully acted by Meryl Streep, a doyenne to young actors everywhere.  Tommy Lee Jones proves he can play more than just grumpy old man with his touching performance.

The characters were well illustrated by the acting and the writing.  It was easy to be drawn into the life of a couple who has been married for 30 years but have somehow lost each other on their journey.

When the couple go to couples counselling, its as if we are in the room with them and can feel their embarassment of being asked intimate questions about their relationship by the counsellor played by Steve Carel, who it was nice to see in a straight role.  Who can forget his 40 year old virgin.

It was nice to watch a movie where no 3D, guns, or Vampires were required.  A human story that could happen to anyone of us, has already happened, you might know this couple or be them.

Thoughts were provoked and there was much laughter as the audience recognized ourselves and each other in the funny little things people do whilst just living.

SPARKLE by DENENE MILLNER

Sparkle is an epic tale inspired by the story of The Supremes. It's 1968 Detroit and a time when the entertainment world is thoroughly mesmerized by the Motown sound. In the midst of that musical and entrepreneurial phenomenon three beautiful sisters -- the daughters of a former R&B singer-turned-Bible thumper -- leave the bosom of the church and, against the strenuous objection of their mother, dive headfirst into the tough, unforgiving world of R&B. As Sister, Dolores and Sparkle submit to the Svengali-like styling of their manager and fight against the ruthless ambitions of a cast of characters bent on taking advantage of their fortune and fame, the close-knit family is torn apart by greed, ambition, broken loyalties, and the merciless glare of the spotlight. But one sister, Sparkle, may yet have what it takes to emerge as the brightest star of them all.
