JW ANDERSON X CONVERSE

CO-LAB

Jonathan Anderson loves Converse. He’s been wearing them for years. So when the brand approached him for a collaboration with his label JW Anderson, how could he say anything but yes?  “It’s been a dream come true,” he said after the show

The collection is an homage to the tourist. Presented in Florence at Pitti Uomo—where visitors come in by the busload to wander the narrow streets, down spritzers, and get lost in museums—it was a scaled-back and relatable effort from a designer better known for his provocative, esoteric collections.

“When we came to Florence, I would see American and Japanese and British tourists walking around,” Anderson said. “I liked this idea of the kid in a denim short with a T-shirt and a pair of Converse.”

Inspired by the dissonance between convention and disruption, Converse and JW Anderson have teamed up to explore what happens when the runway meets the street. As the founder and creative director of his namesake label, Jonathan Anderson is a British-based visionary at the forefront of the international fashion scene. Converse, synonymous for their alliance to youth culture, serves as the perfect canvas for Anderson’s expression of “casual luxury.” For the Glitter Gutter pack, iconic silhouettes like the Chuck ’70 and the Thunderbolt trainer— both born in sport and adopted by street culture—have been given a new shine, dipped in bold metallics and color-blocked glitter.
