VICTORIA BECKHAM TAKES NEW YORK
“I’ve spent a lot of time in Europe, but it is about fabric, texture, British heritage tweeds and knitwear from Scotland — and I took a lot of inspiration from men’s clothes,”
Victoria Beckham A/W 2013 Catwalk
On Sunday morning in New York, Victoria showed the latest offering from her highly successful fashion label to an eager audience, which included husband David Beckham and fashion queen Anna Wintour.
Key trends included rounded shoulders and an emphasis on sleeves, collars and necklines (yes, there were roll-necks). The collection was grounded in browns and greys, with splashes of electric blue and yellow.
Skirt lengths were mostly below the knee, with splits at the front and side. Separates were cinched together with skinny black belts and every other model was carrying a large tote bag.
Her looks, she said in press notes, were about "refined quality within a mannish modernity."
There were ultra-flattering coats. Her signature fitted dresses, with exposed zippers. Lots of dark blues and blacks. Browns. An absolutely stunning black and blue minidress paired with Manolo Blahnik booties.
And like any top designer, Beckham quickly stepped out to rousing applause at the end of the show. In years past, she would talk editors through the collection, explaining her color and cut choices. No longer.
This former Spice Girl is all grown up, sartorially-speaking.
